Part L

If your firm installs lighting systems or associated electrical controls in offices or factories in England and Wales, Part L will apply to you.

Part L of the Building Regulations requires "reasonable provision to be made for the conservation of fuel and power in buildings" through various regulations including but limited to providing and commissioning energy efficient fixed building services with effective controls.

Introduced in April 2006 as part of the government's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by addressing global warming. These are tough new standards and it is of high importance that all contractors are aware of the continual developments in these documents, especially the legal responsibilities under Part L.

For more information and frequently asked questions about Part L, please visit: http://www.partl.co.uk/faq.asp
